Types of Metal Shearing Machines

Kaka Industrial carries every type of metal shear for your shop:

  • Electric shearing machines — power-driven guillotine shears for high-volume production (Q11 series)
  • Foot-operated stomp shears — no power needed, ideal for 16-gauge mild steel cutting
  • Manual bench shears & throatless shears — compact and affordable, perfect for small shops and hobbyists
  • Punch & shear combination machines — cut, punch, and notch in one tool (PBS-9)
  • Pipe & tube notchers — cut precise notches for pipe spools and roll cages

How to Choose the Right Metal Shear

Consider three factors when selecting a shear:

  • Material capacity — check the max gauge (thickness) the shear can cut. 16-gauge is about 0.06" (1.5mm) mild steel.
  • Power source — electric shears need 110V or 220V; manual and foot shears need none.
  • Workpiece shape — flat sheets need a straight shear; pipes and tubing need a notcher.

Metal Shear FAQ

What gauge steel can a sheet metal shear cut? Manual shears typically handle 16–20 gauge; electric shears can cut thicker materials. Check each product's spec.

Do I need electricity to operate a foot shear? No. Stomp shears are fully manual.

Can a shear cut stainless steel? Yes, most Kaka shears handle stainless at slightly reduced capacity.
